Cut flowers are thirsty and fussy about bacteria. Do these four things and a $12 bouquet easily doubles its life.
- Trim 2cm off the stems at a sharp angle, under running water, before they go in the vase
- Strip any leaves that would sit below the waterline — that's what turns the water cloudy
- Change the water every two days and re-trim the stems while you're at it
- Keep them out of direct sun and away from the fruit bowl — ripening fruit gives off ethylene and ages flowers fast
Ask at the counter and we'll trim them for you before you leave.

Call ahead and we'll put a bouquet aside for pickup — handy if you need a particular colour, or you're cutting it fine before dinner.
